We want you to have options – while you’ve started your membership with one charging method, you may find that it doesn’t work best for you and your patrons.
With great power, comes great responsibility– communicating big changes, like how you charge your patrons is key to maintaining trust within your community and retaining patrons. We recommend giving your patrons advanced notice and making the change at the start of the next month, once the has passed (on the 1st of each month, Pacific time).
In this article we'll go over:
Note: Charge up front is a permanent change to how you bill your patrons. Once you've enabled charge up front billing, you won't be able to switch to a different billing cycle. Want to know more about charge up front billing before you make the switch? Here's where you can learn more.
Step 1: While logged in to your account, navigate to .
Step 2: Select from the top menu.
Step 3: Toggle between per creation or monthly and save your changes.
Note: If you are switching to per creation, be sure to say what you’ll be creating (i.e. per photo, per song, per video, per episode… you get the point ).
If you already have paid posts created this month we suggest that you switch to monthly at the start of next month - this will ensure that you charge your patrons for any paid posts you have already made this month.
Note: When you switch to a monthly campaign mid-month you are removing any paid posts you created earlier that month.
What happens to my patrons' monthly maxes?
When you switch to a monthly billing cycle, your patrons will be billed once on the 1st of each month. Posts can no longer be "paid," so any pending bills for paid posts are removed from patrons' accounts.
Tip: This is another great reason to keep your patrons informed! They may want to increase their payment and join a higher tier. Say they were at your $5.00 tier with a monthly max of 2 creations per month, they may want to increase to your $10.00 tier since they’ll only be charged once per month.
If you decide to switch back to billing per creation, your patrons would automatically be given a monthly max of one. They would need to log in to their accounts in order to edit this if they would like it to be more.
When you switch your page from monthly to per creation in the middle of the month, your patrons will automatically be given a monthly max of 1 paid post.
Existing patrons would need to log in to their accounts in order to edit this if they would like to to increase their monthly max.
Pro tip: If you’re planning to change how you charge your patrons because you’ll be releasing more content, they may decide to pay more. Giving your patrons the scoop on why your making a change, will make them feel more involved in your community.
