Message an individual patron
Patron relationships manager
You can send individual or group messages right from your Patron relationship manager. In this section, we’ll guide you through messaging an individual patron from this tool.
- While logged in to your Patreon account, head to your Patron relationship manager. This tool is located in the “Patrons” section of your left-hand navigation panel.
- You can search the patron’s name in the search bar of your relationship manager, which will search through your active patron list by default. Filter by “Membership type” to message a former or declining patron. You can also filter your list by membership type (active, declined, former), tier level, or specific billing month until you’ve located the patron.
- Check the box to the far left of the patron’s name and click on the“Message” link. You can also click on the patron’s name in the list to reveal their patron information on the right side of the page. You'll also find the button to “Message” that individual patron.
- Craft your message in the text field, and then click on “Send.” This will begin a new message thread with that individual patron.
Messaging patrons from their profile
You can also message current and former patrons of yours by visiting their patron profile page.
- Visit the patron’s profile page.
- Click on the “Message” link.
- Type your message in the text box field and click on send. That’s it!
Messaging multiple patrons
If you’re searching to send a bulk message to multiple patrons, or deliver benefits to all active patrons in a specific tier, you can do it all from your Patron relationship manager!
Here’s how:
- While logged in to your Patreon account, head to your Patron relationship manager. This tool is located in the “Patrons” section of your left-hand navigation panel.
- Use the filters at the top of your manager to generate the list of patrons you’d like to message. Here are some common ways that creators might filter their list:
- Membership status: Active + Tier Level. This allows you to message all patrons who are paid and in a specific tier. This is great for delivering tier specific benefits via messages!
- Membership status: Declined + Specific billing month. This allows you to message all declined patrons from any billing month to let them know that they’re currently declining.
- Memberships status: Refunded + Specific billing month. This allows you to message patrons you may have refunded to confirm that they’ve been refunded.
- Click on the “Message” link directly under your filters.
- Type your message in the text box and click on“Send.”
Managing received and sent messages
Your message conversations can be found and managed in your Patreon account inbox. This is where you’ll find responses from patrons you’ve sent messages or patrons who have reached out directly to you. Your inbox can be found by clicking the message link from the left-hand menu.
Your inbox is split into two different tabs: your creator inbox and your patron inbox (if you are a patron to other creators).
- The leftmost tab is your creator inbox, where you’ll find messages sent between you and your patrons.
- The second tab is your patron inbox, where you’ll find messages you’ve sent as a patron or messages that creator’s you support have sent you.
Click on a message preview from the left panel to pull up your conversation. To respond, simply click into the text field box, type your response, and click on “Send.”
Frequently asked questions
Can I send pictures via messaging?
At the moment, images cannot be shared in private messages. You can share links with users, which is an option for sharing image sets with patrons.
Can I delete a message?
Messages can’t be deleted from your conversations at this time.
Can I send bulk messages?
Absolutely! You can send messages to all patrons in a specific tier, paying a range of money, or declined patrons. Read this section about bulk messaging to learn how.
Can I message followers?
You can only message patrons you have or have had a financial relationship with (former patron). So you can’t send messages to patrons who are following you. If you want to reach your followers with any updates, or calls to join your membership, we recommend publishing a public post to share important info with followers.
Can I merge multiple conversations into one thread/find all the messages I sent to the same patron?
At the moment, there's no way to merge conversations.
Can I pick specific patrons from my list to bulk message?
Not at the moment. You can filter your patron list to target your bulk message to a group of patrons (e.g., Declined, Paid, from a specific tier). Then you can message everyone who appears on the filtered list. To message individual patrons, click on their name in your patron list, and select the Message button on their right-hand patron card.
