Messages on Patreon

  • Updated

We know that messaging is an important part of the creator-to-member relationship. On Patreon, it’s easier than ever to connect with your most engaged fans and seamlessly deliver benefits.

Patreon messaging includes the following features:

Threaded messages

Conversations live in a single message thread. You’ll have one thread for each member you have direct messages with. Scroll through a message thread with a paid member to view your message history with them.

Search through your messages

You can search your inbox by member username to quickly pick up conversations right where you left off.

In 2021, we updated our messaging system to bring a better experience for creators and members. As part of that update, we stored users' messages dating back to 2019. Any messages dating earlier than January 2019 were not moved to our updated messaging system.

Member information in private messages

Information is powerful; knowing the billing history for a member can be super helpful in prioritizing responses, or sharing benefits via messages. Length of membership, current membership amount, and lifetime paid by a member will all be available directly in your message threads with members.

How bulk messaging works

Instead of one message thread for your bulk message, you’ll see a thread created for each member who received the message. So responses will be kept private. You can search by member name to easily find the right conversations.

You can send out benefits through bulk messaging or send a group of members an important update from your Relationship manager.

Starting a new conversation with a paid member on Desktop

You can start a new message by searching for a member’s name in your inbox or from your Relationship manager.

Here’s how to start a new message thread from your Relationship Manager:

  1. Click on the Audience button from the left sidebar navigation
  2. From the Relationship manager search for a member by their profile name or email. You can also use the filters to parse through your member list
  3. Click on the member from the list and click the Message button
  4. Click into the Write a message text box and type up your message
  5. Click the Send button when you’re ready

And, here’s how to start a new message from your inbox:

  1. Click on the Message button from the left sidebar navigation
  2. Click into the search bar
  3. Type the name of the member and hit the “enter” or “return” key
  4. Then click on the member’s name to start the conversation

All existing message threads will live in your Inbox, so once you’ve sent your message, you can follow up with members from your Inbox.

It is currently not possible to delete message threads on Patreon.
