Connect your custom domain with Squarespace

  • Updated

If your domain is registered or managed through Squarespace, you can connect it to your Patreon page. Once connected, your fans will visit your Patreon page using your Squarespace domain (like yourname.com or members.yourname.com) instead of patreon.com/yourname.

Patreon will still host your creator page — the domain connection simply changes what your fans see in the browser.

Add your domain to Patreon

Changing your Patreon URL to a custom domain won’t affect your existing members or messages. We suggest letting your members know before changing your URL so they can update any bookmarks.

Here’s how to connect your Squarespace domain to Patreon:

  1. In Patreon, go to Dashboard in the left sidebar menu
  2. In the Home tab, click the menu next to the Edit page button and select Page details
  3. In the Basics tab, scroll to the Custom domain section and click Add a domain
  4. Enter your domain (for example, members.yourname.com or yourname.com)
  5. Patreon will display the DNS records you need to add in Squarespace — typically a TXT record for verification, plus either CNAME, ALIAS/ANAME, or A records for routing

Add DNS records in Squarespace

Follow these steps to add your DNS records in Squarespace:

  1. Log in to your Squarespace account
  2. From the top navigation, go to Domains, if you’re not already there, and select the domain you want to connect
  3. In the left sidebar, click DNS → DNS Settings
  4. Review your existing DNS records:
    • Delete any records that match the type you plan to add (for example, old A or CNAME records) so you don’t have duplicates or conflicts
    • Records labeled MX or TXT don’t affect your Patreon setup and can stay as they are
    • If this domain has been used before, there may be additional records you’ll need to remove. For guidance on configuring an existing domain, check with your domain provider’s setup instructions
  5. Go to the Custom Records section, select the Add Record button, and enter the records shown in Patreon exactly as displayed
  6. In Squarespace DNS editor, add the DNS records exactly as shown in Patreon. Be sure to select the correct category in the Type drop-down menu up top, matching A record with A record, AAAA with AAAA, and so on. Leave TTL at the default. Then select the Save button

You need to add every single type/value into the domain provider

For A records (if using your root domain):

  • Host: @
  • IP Address: enter the IPs shown in Patreon

For CNAME records (if using a subdomain):

  • Host: your subdomain name (e.g. members)
  • Alias Data: the target shown in Patreon

For redirecting domains (optional):

  • Host: www
  • Alias Data: the target URL provided by Patreon

Once you’ve entered all of the values from Patreon into Squarespace, you’re all set. You may need to wait up to 24 hours before they are officially connected, but you can head back to Patreon and click Refresh next to your domain to check the updated status.

Verify your connection in Patreon

After saving your DNS changes:

  1. Return to Page details → Basics tab → Custom domain in Patreon
  2. Patreon will automatically check your records and verify the connection
  3. Once verified, you’ll see a green Connected status
  4. Patreon will issue an SSL certificate automatically for your domain

Most connections resolve within minutes, but DNS changes can take up to 24–48 hours to fully propagate.

Disconnect or update your domain

To disconnect from Patreon:

If you ever want to disconnect your Squarespace domain from Patreon:

  1. Go to Dashboard → Home tab → “…” menu → Page details
  2. In the Basics tab, scroll to the Custom domain section
  3. Find your active domain and click (…) More → Disconnect domain
  4. Confirm by selecting Disconnect

Once disconnected, your page will revert to your original patreon.com/creatorname URL.

If you’d like to reuse your Squarespace domain for another purpose, you can go back to DNS Settings in Squarespace and delete or replace the Patreon-related records.

To update DNS in Squarespace (optional)

This step is only needed if you want to use the domain for something else (like a website or email service)

  1. Sign in to your Squarespace Domain Portfolio
  2. From the top navigation, go to Domains, if you’re not already there, and select the domain you want to connect
  3. In the left sidebar, click DNS → DNS Settings
  4. Go to the Custom Records section, find the record you want to delete, and select the screenshot of the icon for editing a dns recordicon
  5. A pop-up will open asking to confirm the deletion of the selected DNS records, click Delete button
