Deliver Podcasts with Spotify

  • Updated

If you are a podcaster with a creator account on Patreon, you can now distribute your Patreon-exclusive podcasts for your fans to listen to on Spotify! Make it easier for new fans to discover your paid content and more convenient for existing members to listen to their favourite shows through their preferred podcast player.

For audio and video posts to be distributed via RSS (including to platforms like Spotify), you need to have the Add to podcast option enabled when posting. For more details, see our Enable audio RSS feed for my members article.

How to sync with Spotify

All you need to sync with Spotify is a creator account on Patreon. A Spotify account is not required to use the integration.

To enable the integration with Spotify, please log in and follow the instructions below.

Make sure you are using the desktop web experience and follow these steps while on your creator profile. You can switch to your creator profile by clicking your profile picture in the bottom-left corner and clicking on your creator profile.

  1. Click on the Settings link from the left navigation
  2. In your Creator Account settings, click on the Podcast and audio tab
    • If you haven’t yet enabled a Patreon RSS feed for members, set up a podcast to allow your audio and video episodes to be shared with your members to listen on Patreon or other podcast apps.
  3. Find the podcast you want to integrate with Spotify, in case you have multiple shows. Select the edit button in the Distribution option

  4. Toggle on the Spotify option. A pop-up will appear. Then click Continue

  5. Check the podcast information that will be shared with Spotify and click Continue. If needed, you can edit the details in the Podcast settings
  6. Click the Sync with Spotify button to sync your existing public and membership episodes on Patreon with Spotify. All the future audio and video episodes shared on Patreon with the Add to podcast option enabled will also be synced with Spotify following the access settings of your post

    • For video posts, we will extract the audio and share it with your members on Spotify
    • We suggest adding to the descriptor of your podcast and each post that fans on Spotify will only be able to access episodes in line with the tier they are subscribed to
    • Only audio and audio from video posts on your Patreon will be distributed to Spotify. Any shops listed on Patreon will not be distributed to Spotify
  7. Click Save. The initial sync with Spotify will start, and a message will appear in the Distribution option. Once it’s finished, you’re all set!
    • Syncing will complete in 30 minutes, but in some instances, it can take longer – you can come back later or refresh the page to check the status of the sync
  8. (Optional) Share free and paid podcast episodes in one Spotify feed: With Synced Feeds, you can combine all your episodes – free and members-only – into a single feed on Spotify. Non-members will see locked episodes with gentle prompts to join your Patreon. It’s an easy way to turn listeners into paying fans – creators using Synced Feeds have seen higher conversion rates. Learn how to set up Synced Feeds
  9. (Optional) View Spotify-specific data and insights of your podcast, or add a promotional banner to any existing or new Spotify page through Spotify for Creators using the Spotify RSS URL. Learn more about Linking and promoting your paid podcast

Once you turn on the integration, you can click view your podcast on Spotify to check your Spotify page as a fan would.

Your Patreon episodes will be distributed to a new Spotify page that hosts all of the Patreon-exclusive content and is separate from your existing Spotify page (if you already have one).

Manage your episodes

When you sync with Spotify, whatever is on Patreon will be mirrored on your Spotify page. This means that:

  • Only audio and video posts that have the Add to podcast option enabled will sync with Spotify. Posts where you turn this off won’t appear in the RSS feed or on your Spotify page. For more details, see our Enable audio RSS feed for my members article
  • Any edits you make to your posts will be reflected on Spotify as well
  • If you delete an audio post, it will also be deleted from Spotify
  • Access to your Spotify episodes will also depend on how you set access to those posts on Patreon. Read more about Managing access to your posts
    • If set to Public  – All your fans can listen to that post on Spotify, regardless of whether they are a member or if they have a Patreon account
    • If set to All members – Your paid members will have access to the post on Spotify, but this feature is not available for free members. Free members won’t see these posts on Spotify
    • If set to Paid members only or Selected tiers – You can choose to give access to all paid members or manually select specific tiers who can listen to that audio on Spotify
    • If set to Free members only – The Spotify feature is not available for Free members-only posts. This means these posts will not show up on Spotify

FAQ

  • In order to make your podcast available on Spotify, Spotify needs the information necessary to create and populate a page for your podcast on Spotify.

To that end, when you sync your podcast with Spotify, you are sending to Spotify your podcast title, description, cover artwork, author name, public author email address and all of your existing episodes on Patreon, including the text for those posts.

You are also choosing to share all of your future audio posts with Spotify, including the text for those posts.

  • For paid members

After members link their accounts to Spotify, your posts will appear as unlocked for them according to the tier they are in. The tier permission is done at the post level on Patreon.

Feel free to refer to “Managing access to your posts” to learn more about setting post access.

If you set your posts to Everyone, everyone can listen to your content on Spotify, regardless of whether they have a membership or a Patreon account.

    For non-members

If you set up the Spotify integration, your Patreon episodes will be distributed to a new Spotify page that hosts all of the Patreon-exclusive content. Only members can enjoy these episodes on Spotify.

When you activate Synced Feeds on Spotify, non-members will see your content as a padlock with a Paid tag, prompting the listener to link their Patreon to Spotify and sign up for a membership. This can be a great way to promote your Patreon to a wider audience!

    Spotify Synced Feeds

If you offer both free and paid versions of your podcast, you can use Spotify’s Synced Feeds to merge them into one seamless experience. This feature:

    • Combines your free and paid feeds into one Spotify page
    • Automatically matches episodes between your free and paid versions
    • Customises content for subscribers and non-subscribers

To learn more about Synced Feeds, check out our complete guide here.

  • Yes, members will need to link their Patreon accounts to access your episodes on Spotify. They will be able to do this on Spotify after you’ve turned on the ability to sync with Spotify on their Patreon account settings.

Members will only have access to the podcast episodes that are available on their tier. Learn more about how your members can listen to your content on Spotify.

  • You do not need a Spotify for Creators account to turn on the integration.
  • In the Podcast and audio tab, go to the Distribution option. There you can disable syncing your audio posts with Spotify by clicking the edit button and toggling off the Spotify sync. Click Save. After the change, all your Patreon-exclusive episodes will no longer show up on Spotify.

  • Only audio/video posts with the Add to podcast setting enabled in the post editor will be available to listen to on Spotify
  • Yes, you will be able to turn on the Spotify integration even if you’re not on a paid Patreon plan.
  • To manage which audio/video posts are available on Spotify, you can adjust the Add to podcast setting for each individual post. By turning this option off in the post editor, the episode will be removed from your members’ RSS feed and your Spotify page.
  • Any analytics data related to Patreon-exclusive episodes that fans listen to on Spotify will be available on Spotify for Creators if you claim your Spotify page. Learn more about Linking and promoting your paid podcast.
  • If the episodes are locked on Patreon, that will also be the case on Spotify. Once their membership term ends, members no longer have access to paid episodes on Spotify. This is also true if a member cancels or their payment method is declined.

When a member cancels, access will be revoked according to the billing model you’ve chosen for your Patreon page:

    • If monthly (non-charge up front) or per creation, members immediately lose access to the paid episodes
    • With charge up front or subscription billing, members will lose access to paid episodes at the end of their final billing cycle
    • If the member is on an annual membership, access to paid episodes will be revoked when their yearly membership ends
  • You can check if the member’s payment is in good standing and if they are in the correct membership option to unlock Spotify content by going to your Relationship Manager.

If you’ve verified the above and they continue to run into difficulties, feel free to send them the following article: Listen to Patreon-exclusive audios on Spotify. The article FAQs include troubleshooting for different issues that may arise.

It’s important to note that only audio or video posts that have Add to podcast enabled are mirrored on Spotify; other types of posts won’t be visible there.
