Podcasting: Migrating audio from an external host

  • Updated

Podcast importing lets you bring your existing RSS feed from an external host to Patreon. Once imported, you can manage and update your podcast episodes directly on Patreon, making it easier to share content with your fans. This article will guide you through the process of migrating your podcast to Patreon, whether you’re creating a new show or adding episodes to an existing one.

Who is podcast migration for?

Podcast migration is best for creators who want to import their full back catalogue once and manage episodes directly on Patreon going forward.

It’s ideal if you:

  • Want to bring your back catalogue to Patreon all at once: Save time by transferring previously published episodes in bulk. This is perfect if you plan to manually upload or manage future episodes directly on Patreon
  • Are moving away from an external host: If you’re fully transitioning off another RSS host, migration lets you bring everything over and manage your content natively on Patreon for a seamless experience
  • Are new to Patreon and want a clean start: Already host a podcast elsewhere? Migrating helps you transfer your existing episodes so you can start engaging fans right away

How to migrate episodes

If you already have a podcast hosted elsewhere with an RSS feed, you can migrate your feed to Patreon. This makes it easy to transfer your existing episodes and start sharing your content with fans on Patreon.

Review and publish your episodes

Once the migration begins, you’ll be redirected to the Library > Drafts page, where you can track its progress. If you’re migrating a large number of episodes, it may take a few minutes to start. After the migration is complete, refresh the page to view your imported episodes.

We aim to bring over all the information from your original hosting provider, including tier and release date where applicable. You can review each draft individually by clicking on it to confirm the data was imported correctly and update details such as the description, title or any other details if needed.

When you’re satisfied with the drafts, you can bulk select them from the Library page and click Publish.

Published episodes will retain their original publish dates, ensuring they appear in the correct order in fans’ libraries and RSS feeds. Fans will not receive notifications when these episodes are published.

Make sure you have RSS feed enabled for your members so your episodes appear in their RSS apps. If you’re using Patreon RSS, you can also turn on the Spotify integration, which allows non-members to join directly on Spotify to unlock episodes
