Listen to Patreon-exclusive audio on Spotify

  • Updated

If you have a membership with a creator who uses our Spotify integration, you can now start listening to your favourite podcasts directly on Spotify! Keep reading below to learn more.

How to link your Spotify account to Patreon

You’ll need to link your Patreon to your Spotify account in order to listen to your Patreon-exclusive episodes on Spotify. You can do this from your Patreon account or directly from Spotify.

When using Patreon on your computer, you can see if a creator has synced their Spotify account to their Patreon by going to your Membership tab on the creator’s Patreon page. You’ll notice a Spotify button under the section Listen in other podcast apps if the creator you’re a member of offers that option for your membership.

If you already have a Patreon account and a membership with a creator that offers the option to listen on Spotify, log in and follow the steps below.

From Patreon

From Spotify

You can also link your Patreon account from Spotify directly. If you don’t have a Patreon account or a membership to that creator, you can sign up for both from your Spotify account and unlock access to the content:

  1. Go to Spotify and make sure you are logged in to your account
  2. You can use the search if there’s a particular creator you are looking for
  3. You’ll find that the Patreon-exclusive content will be marked by a padlock with a Paid tag

  4. Click on the padlock icon next to the locked episode
  5. A prompt will show up, letting you know you need to support the creator to access the exclusive Patreon audio. Click on the Let’s go button

  6. You’ll be asked to link your Patreon account to Spotify. You can either log in with your existing account or sign up and create a new one
  7. After logging in/creating an account, click Agree
  8. If you don’t have a membership with the creator, you’ll be asked to choose a membership to join the creator’s community on Patreon
  9. Add your payment information or use a saved payment method if you have an existing account
    • You can check what payment methods and currencies are currently accepted in our Patreon currency settings article
    • The Order Summary will give you a full breakdown of your payment
  10. You’ll be taken to a Spotify page listing all the podcasts you have access to
  11. You can also access your podcasts from your Connected Apps page on Patreon using a computer, where you can see a list of available exclusive podcasts with links to listen on Spotify that are available as part of your membership

FAQ

  • In order to listen to your Patreon-exclusive episodes on Spotify, Spotify needs to know which Patreon-exclusive episodes you have access to.

To that end, when you link your Spotify account to Patreon, you are sharing with Spotify a unique ID for yourself along with the list of creators you support on Patreon and the membership tiers to which you belong for each of those creators.

  • You can do so from your Connected apps page. Click on Disconnect next to Spotify.

You won’t be able to listen to the episodes on Spotify once you disconnect your Patreon from the integration, but you can always connect again later to regain access.

  • You can see this information by going to your Membership tab on the creator’s Patreon page. If your creator is using the integration and if it’s available as part of your membership, you’ll find a Spotify button under the “Listen in other podcast apps” section.

  • The integration only supports audio posts. Any other posts, such as video posts, will not appear on Spotify.

  • After your membership term ends, you will no longer have access to the paid episodes on Spotify. When you lose access depends on the billing model chosen by the creator:

    • If you cancel a monthly (non-charge up front) or per creation membership, you’ll immediately lose access to the paid episodes
    • If you cancel a charge up front or subscription billing membership, access to paid episodes will be revoked at the end of your final billing cycle
    • When you cancel an annual membership, access to paid episodes will be revoked when your yearly membership ends

If the episodes are locked on Patreon, that will also be the case on Spotify.

  • Spotify access will mirror Patreon, so if an audio post is locked to you on Patreon, it will also be locked on Spotify.

    Verify your payment status

By default, we lock a creator’s posts when a member payment is declined and the same happens with Patreon content on Spotify. You can check your payment history to ensure everything is up to date. If you need any support with retrying a declined payment, please refer to this help guide: Retry my payment (decline)

    Check your membership access

Some episodes might not be available to you if they’re not part of your membership. If an audio post is labelled as Locked on Patreon, you can click the Locked button to check which membership options have access. If your membership option isn’t listed, the creator didn’t include your membership when publishing the audio post, so you won’t be able to listen to it on Spotify.

    Still can’t access the content?

If you’ve confirmed the above information and you are still having issues, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can take:

    • Confirm that you are logged in to the correct Patreon and Spotify accounts
    • Log out of your Spotify and Patreon accounts. Clear your cache and cookies and log back in
    • Disconnect and reconnect your Patreon account with Spotify. You can do this from the Connected Apps tab
