Safety Best Practices for going Live

  • Updated

Patreon continues to put creators and communities first, working hard to build spaces where direct creator-to-fan and fan-to-fan relationships are stronger and safer than ever. Here are some of the ways creators, trusted moderators and communities can build and maintain an even safer environment in Lives.

  • Put auto-moderation on duty. Creators should enable auto-moderation before they start their lives: think of it as a helpful co-host that automatically keeps things respectful and allows everyone else to remain in the moment
  • Assign moderators. Creators can assign up to 10 moderators to help maintain the norms of their community. A good moderator is someone who deeply understands the community and has an interest in engaging with members – someone you can rely on to stick to the moderation standards you’ve set. Check in regularly with moderators to make sure the expectations are clear and that you’re all on the same page about the norms being enforced
  • Lean on the arsenal of tools to keep Lives safe. Members should continue to rely on options like muting and reporting members, while creators and their trusted moderators should feel empowered to delete messages, mute members, kick members from chats or turn off chats entirely
  • Keep up with Moderation Hub. Creators and their trusted moderators should consistently review flagged messages and decide whether to keep them, delete them or report them to the Patreon Trust & Safety team
  • If you see something you believe violates our Community Guidelines, we encourage you to report the message or the user
  • If you have questions or concerns about our Community Guidelines, we welcome you to write to us at guidelines@patreon.com
