Collaboration posts (early access)

  • Updated

Collaboration posts are part of the network bundle that’s currently in early access. This feature will be gradually rolled out to creators.

Collaboration posts allow you to publish content with any other creator who has access to the product. Collaboration posts are made to help you grow your audience on Patreon seamlessly by introducing yourself to an entirely new set of fans.  These posts are always public and can only be created on the web version of Patreon. They’ll show up on both the web and mobile feed.

As a collaborator, you can choose whether to notify your members about the post, and you can remove yourself from a collaboration if needed.

How collaboration posts work

Collaboration posts can be created on desktop and will appear in the feed with both creators’ names in the byline. When you are added as a collaborator, you’ll receive a notification. Collaborators can also control member notifications for the post and can remove themselves from a collaboration at any time.

Here are some best practices to bear in mind as you create your Collaboration posts:

  • Create collaborations with creators who partnered with you on the content and are co-authors
    • You’ll only be able to co-author a post with another creator who has access to the feature
  • Contact your collaborator in advance to confirm they’re comfortable with the post – this helps avoid confusion for both of your audiences and ensures that the launch is successful!

How to make a collaboration post

To make a collaboration post, follow these steps while on a computer:

  1. When creating a new public post, go to the Add a collaborator section in the editor in the right side panel
  2. Then type the name of the creator you want to add in the search field
  3. Once you have found them, select the corresponding creator
  4. You’ll now see a list of collaborators
  5. If you want to remove someone you’ve added, just click the X beside their name, and they’ll be removed from the list
  6. After you Publish it, the creator will appear in the byline and the post will be shared on both feeds

What happens when you’re tagged as a collaborator

If another creator tags you as a collaborator, here’s what you can expect:

  • You’ll receive a notification letting you know that you’ve been added as a collaborator on a post
  • The post will automatically appear on your feed and show both creators’ names in the byline
  • You can view and share the post just like your own
  • If you remove the post from your feed, it will stay published on the original creator’s page
  • You can’t edit or delete the post directly; only the original creator can make changes

Managing collaborations

Collaboration posts give you control over how you want to show up in a collaboration. You cannot add yourself as a collaborator to another creator’s post; they must include you. Once added, you can decide how your work appears, prioritise the notifications you want to send to your members and leave a collaboration if needed.

Fans can comment on collaboration posts as they do on regular posts. If you experience abuse (e.g. spam) as a collaborator, you have the option to remove yourself from the post by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the post where you were added as a collaborator – you’ll receive an email and a notification on your Patreon account when someone adds you as a collaborator
  2. You’ll see a message at the top of the page stating that you’re a collaborator on this post
  3. Then you have the option to share it with your fans or to remove your name from the post
  4. Click on the Remove my name button
  5. A pop-up will appear for you to confirm whether you’d like to remove it
  6. Since this is an irreversible process, once you’re sure, click on the button Remove my name to confirm it
  7. You’re name is now removed from the post

Where collaboration posts appear

On your creator page, collaboration posts will appear alongside your other public posts, and they will also show up in the home feed. Currently, collaboration posts cannot be added to collections or sold, and the original post will always remain public. Screenshots will be included to show how collaboration posts are displayed on creator pages.

Current limitations during early access

There are a few restrictions to be aware of while collaboration posts are in beta:

  • Only available for public posts, not monetised content
  • Can only be created on desktop, not in the mobile app
  • Collaborations are limited to creators who have early access to the feature
  • No invite or accept flow yet (planned for general availability)
  • 18+ creators do not have access during the beta
  • Not available for Drops or Lives
