Live streaming on Patreon lets you connect with your community in real time — no algorithm, no ads, just you and the people who show up for your work. This guide explains how to go live with the Streamlabs integration — using Streamlabs Desktop or the Plugin for OBS, complete with custom overlays, Dual Output for vertical and horizontal layouts, and multistreaming to other platforms.
What you'll need
- A Patreon creator account
- Streamlabs Desktop or Streamlabs Plugin for OBS installed
- A stable internet connection
- A webcam and microphone (built-in or external)
- Any overlays you'd like to use
Connect your Patreon account
You can connect your account through Streamlabs Dashboard (which works for both Desktop and Plugin for OBS) or directly inside each app.
Via Streamlabs Dashboard
- Log in and go to your Streamlabs Dashboard. Click your profile image in the top right and select Account Settings
- Open the Platforms tab. Scroll down until you see Patreon
- Click Merge next to Patreon and authorize your account. Once you click Accept, Patreon will appear as a linked destination — and it'll be available in both Desktop and Plugin for OBS automatically
Via Streamlabs Desktop
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and go to Stream Settings in the bottom left navigation bar
- Scroll down to find Patreon listed as a destination. Click Connect and authorize your account. You'll be redirected back to Desktop once it's linked
Via Streamlabs Plugin for OBS
- Click Start Streaming inside OBS. The plugin window will open and show your list of destinations
- Toggle on Patreon and you'll be redirected to authorize your account. Once done, Patreon will appear as an available destination
Go live from Streamlabs Desktop
- Click Go Live. You'll see your connected destinations — make sure Patreon is toggled on
- Enter your stream title and description, then choose which audience you'd like to have access. You can select any tier or combination of membership levels
- Review your stream details and click Confirm & Go Live
When your stream wraps up, you'll have the option to post a replay for anyone who missed it live. Replays stay on your Patreon page based on your settings.
Go live from Streamlabs Plugin for OBS
- Set up your stream in OBS, then click Start Streaming. The plugin window will open
- Make sure Patreon is toggled on as a destination. Enter your title, description, and choose your audience
- Click Confirm & Go Live
Multistream to Patreon and other platforms
Want to go live on Patreon and another platform at the same time?
Multistreaming requires a Streamlabs Ultra subscription.
From Streamlabs Desktop
- Click Go Live and toggle on Patreon plus any other platforms you'd like to stream to
- Fill in your title, description, and streaming category (if required by other platforms). Scroll down to select your Patreon audience
- Choose your primary chat in the bottom left of the Go Live window
- Click Confirm & Go Live
Patreon chat isn't currently supported within Desktop, so select another platform you're streaming to if you'd like chat visible.
From Streamlabs Plugin for OBS
- Go to Multistream in the left navigation bar. Toggle on Patreon along with your other preferred platforms
- Enter your title, description, and audience. Click Confirm & Go Live
Enable Dual Output
Dual Output lets you optimize your stream layout for both horizontal and vertical viewing simultaneously — great if you're streaming to platforms with different format preferences.
Via the Sources panel
- Toggle on the Dual Output button at the top of the Sources panel in Streamlabs Desktop. From there, you can adjust both your horizontal and vertical layouts
- When you click Go Live, you'll see horizontal and vertical icons next to each platform. Assign the layout you want for each, then fill in your stream details and click Confirm & Go Live
Via the Go Live window
- Click Go Live and check the Dual Output box. Use the icons next to each destination to select horizontal or vertical
- Click out of the Go Live window to finalize your layouts, then click Go Live again to review your details before clicking Confirm & Go Live
Unlink your Patreon account
Via Dashboard
- Go to Account Settings in your Streamlabs Dashboard and open the Platforms tab
- Click Unmerge next to Patreon. This will unlink your account in both Desktop and Plugin for OBS
Via Streamlabs Desktop

- Click Unmerge next to your Patreon account. You'll be redirected to Dashboard to confirm
