This guide will help you post images on Patreon – whether it’s a single image or multiple images in a gallery.

How to post an image or image gallery

Image posts allow you to share visual work with your members. You can post just one image or up to 500 images in a single post.

• Make sure you follow this guide while in your creator profile. You can switch to your creator profile by clicking your profile picture in the bottom-left corner and clicking on your creator profile.
  1. While logged in to your creator account, click on the Create button on the left-hand side
     • If you also offer digital products, choose Post or Product from the Create drop-down
  2. Select Image at the top of the post editor
  3. Add your images:
     • Upload from your computer: Drag and drop an image or select Browse
     • Embed from a URL: Click Embed URL
  4. Once your image(s) have been uploaded, you can rearrange their order by dragging them to new positions (if posting more than one)
  5. Give your post a title (required) and add some written content (optional). You can also upload attachments and add relevant tags
  6. Use the right-side menu for posting extras:
     • Select who can see your post
     • Select if you want to sell your post. You can learn more about selling posts and collections here
     • Disable comments (if you’ve given members comment access)
     • Charge members for the post if you charge per creation
     • Set early access for members before your post goes public
     • Add Preview Text to show non-members
     • Set a publish date for your post to publish at a later time
  7. You can add your post to a collection to help members find more of what they’re looking for. You can think of collections as your own library where you can get to organise your work however you want. Learn more about creating a collection
  8. You can click the three dots (. . .) and then select Duplicate to duplicate the post draft you’re currently on
  9. You can preview your post before publishing by clicking the Preview post button at the top
  10. Once you’re happy with it, you can Publish now, Set a publish date for a later time or leave it as a draft – we auto-save changes to new/draft posts across post title, content, attachments, preview text, media, access and scheduled time/date
• Make sure you follow this guide while in your creator profile. You can switch to your creator profile by tapping your profile picture in the top-right corner of the home screen and tapping on Switch to creator profile.
  1. Tap the “+” button in the bottom menu and then select Post
  2. Tap on to choose image(s) from your phone library or your phone camera. Images will appear in the order they’re selected. To deselect, tap on the image a second time
  3. Tap Add to start the upload – upload time will vary based on the file size and amount of files
  4. After uploading, you can tap on the Edit photos tab to make additional edits:
     • Tap Edit photos and add captions and alt-text to your image(s) to make them more accessible. When you’ve finished, tap Save and then the back arrow
     • Tap Edit in the top-right corner to rearrange multiple images by pressing and dragging the icon. You can also tap on the icon to delete an image. When you’re finished, tap Done and tap the back arrow to go back to Edit post 
  5. Give your post a title (required), and describe what you are sharing (optional)
  6. Tap Next to select your audience, add tags and charge members for the post if you charge per creation
  7. You can add your post to a collection to help members find more of what they’re looking for. You can think of collections as your own library where you can get to organise your work however you want. Learn more about creating a collection
  8. Toggle the Schedule Post option to set a later publication date or time, tap the Publish option to go live or exit the draft, and we’ll save your progress for you

Adding images to your text body

Inline images – images added within the text body – can be added to any Post type. They’re a great way to spice up a lengthy text post or add context to a story you’re telling.

To add an inline image to a post when using a computer, select the “+” icon on the left of the text portion of your post. This “+” icon will only appear once you start moving the mouse in the text part of the post. Once the image has been uploaded, you can change alignment or cropping and insert captions and alt text.

Attaching images to any Post

You can attach image files to any post type. Whether you’re posting an audio, video or image post, you can include an image attachment for members to download. This image will not appear in the body of your post – it will appear as an attachment link at the bottom of your post.

To attach your file, click the Upload button near the bottom of the post you’re creating or editing.

On desktop, you can preview your post before publishing or scheduling by clicking the View icon button.

What image file types can I attach to a post?

• Supported file types: .jpeg, .png, .gif
• Maximum file size: 16 MB per file
• You can upload up to 500 images per post

You’ll know your file is attached when the upload arrow disappears and your file name appears at the bottom of the post editor.

Captions

Captions are a way to narrate your image. While a picture says a thousand words, a great caption tells your members the intent behind an image. Connect on a more personal level with your members by telling them why the image is important to them.

You can add captions after uploading your images by tapping the Edit photos tab. When you’ve finished, tap Save and then the back arrow

Alt-text

Alt-text is an invisible description of your images. They are read aloud by screen readers so members with visual impairments can still consume your content. Alt-text allows you to share images that are accessible to all of your members.

Tip: Keep your alt-text short and sweet. Remember, alt-text will be read by screen readers, so try to use descriptive words to describe what is in the image.

Post autosave

As you work on creating your post, we’ll autosave any edits you make across the post title, content, attachments, media, access, Preview Text and scheduled time/date. You’ll find your work safe and sound in the Drafts section of your Posts page across desktop and mobile.

We won’t autosave changes you make to already published posts, so you have the final say on edits for live posts.

  1. From the left menu, click Library and find the image post (use search or filters if needed).
  2. Click on the post 
  3. Click the rubbish bin icon on the image or images you want to remove. You can also click the button on the first image and select Delete all images to start fresh
  4. For published posts, click Save; unpublished posts autosave

  App

  1. Tap the self view tab and select Manage posts
  2. Tap the post, then the three dots (…) and choose Edit
  3. On iOS, you can also swipe left on the post in Manage posts and tap Edit
  4. Tap Edit photos, then Edit to select and delete image(s), or tap Remove all
  5. For published posts, tap Save; unpublished posts autosave

  Note: To remove an inline image, delete it directly from the text body. To remove an attachment, delete it from the attachment list at the bottom of the editor.

• No, the captions you add won’t populate in the search.

• The beauty of image galleries is that we’ll intelligently size the image for you. No images will be cropped when viewed in full screen. Your image thumbnails will be square, so if you’d like your thumbnails to display the entire image, we recommend using a 1:1 (square) ratio.

• We currently support .jpg, .jpeg, .png and .gif file types.

  Uploads: File sizes must be 5 GB or less per image.
  Attachments: File sizes must be 16 MB or less per image.

  You can add up to 500 images per post. This applies to both uploads and embedded images.

• Yes. Use the Embed URL option in the post editor. We use Embed.ly for embedded images – you can test your URL to make sure it is posted correctly.

  Note: Images embedded from a URL won’t automatically appear as downloadable files for members. If you want members to download an image, also add it as an attachment to the post.

  Flickr: If you see an “Invalid Media” message, paste your Flickr image URL into the Embed.ly test page, then scroll to find the longer URL value. Copy that longer URL into the Embed URL field in your post.
  Tumblr: Right-click the image on Tumblr and choose Copy Image Address, then paste that URL into the Embed URL field of your post.
  Instagram: Make sure the account/post isn’t private. Images from private accounts can’t be embedded in posts.

• No. Members will be able to check the first image of your set if they opt in to email notifications of your new posts. To check all of the images in a post, members will need to click the link to view all images and will be redirected to Patreon.com.

• Yes. You can set your post to be visible to:

  • Paid members only – includes members without a tier.
  • Specific tiers – select or deselect the tiers you want to give access to.

  If you create adult content, posts default to members only. If not, they default to public.

• You can click the three dots (. . .) and then select Duplicate as a draft to duplicate the post draft you’re currently on.
