A standard platform fee for new creators — effective after August 4, 2025

  • Updated

We’re updating pricing to a standard 10% platform plan + applicable taxes and standardizing payment processing rates for new creators who publish their creator page after August 4, 2025. If you are a creator who publishes your page by August 4, 2025, you will keep your existing platform pricing — this new plan will not apply to you, and you will not see a change in price as a result of this change. This guide details what’s changing and what that means for you.

Glossary of terms

  • Legacy platform plans: Patreon’s previous platform plans, which were rolled out on May 7, 2019, include the following:

    • Founders: 5%
    • Pro: 8%
    • Pro + Merch: 11%
    • Premium: 12% (will be migrated to pro + merch when the standard plan goes into effect)
    • Also includes creators with a customized legacy plan

Note: Your page must remain published to keep your legacy platform plan. If you unpublish your creator page—or if Patreon unpublishes it for any reason—at any point after the simplified plan goes into effect, the updated 10% plan will be applied to your page with applicable taxes and fees.

  • Existing creators: Creators who publish their page by August 4, 2025. These creators will keep their legacy platform fee when the new standard plan is introduced
  • New creators: Creators who publish their page after August 4, 2025 — all creators who publish their Patreon after this date will be on our updated 10% platform plan + applicable taxes and fees

A summary of what’s changing

Here’s what’s changing after August 4, 2025:

  • We’re consolidating our platform plans into a standardized 10% platform plan for all new creators — this fee includes all core features on the Pro plan
  • Creators who publish their page by August 4, 2025, will not see a change in price as a result of this change*
    • Creators who were early adopters of selling digital products on Patreon will keep their legacy 5% transaction fee applied to all one-time purchases, effective by June 16th, 2025
  • The micropayment rates will be replaced by the standard payment rates
  • Where applicable, VAT/Sales tax will be applied to platform/payment fees for the standard 10% platform plan
  • For all eligible creators on any platform plan, Patreon Video storage is increasing to 100 hours per month (previously 100 hours for all time)
  • All creators on any platform plan will get access to team accounts

*Important: If you are an existing creator, your prices will not increase with this change unless you add on Merch (3%). If you unpublish your creator page—or Patreon unpublishes it for any reason—at any point after August 4, 2025, you’ll have the updated 10% platform plan applied to your page with the corresponding taxes and fees outlined above.

Why we’re changing things now

Since we last updated our platform plans in May 2019, Patreon has evolved into a media, community, and business platform. With this transition, more products become core to Patreon, like Patreon Video, Community Chats, podcast syncing, and the ability to host multiple podcasts from a single Patreon page. This year, we’re gearing up to release even more exciting core products, like livestreaming, which is currently in beta testing, and we’re allotting even more storage for Patreon Video.

The driving forces behind making these changes now:

  • We’ve transformed from facilitating monthly memberships into a media and community destination Chats between creators and fans are growing 63% year over year, and in the past year, fans have viewed over 80 million hours of Patreon Video. Creators are going live every day, and Patreon’s discovery ecosystem is driving over $200 million to creators per year. We’re committed to ensuring that the core media features that drive this growth and connection remain available to all eligible creators at no extra cost.
  • We’re in it for the long haul We’re consolidating platform plans to ensure that Patreon is on a long-term trajectory to continue delivering on the pace of innovation that creators deserve.

What you need to do

There is no action needed on your end — if you joined and published your page by August 4, 2025, you’ve already locked in your current platform plan. You’ll keep your current plan unless you unpublish your creator page for any amount of time, or if Patreon unpublishes it for any reason.

If you’ve been thinking about starting a new page or have a friend who is considering joining Patreon, we recommend joining and publishing your page now to lock in a legacy platform plan.

Standardized payment processing rates for new creators

We’re replacing our micropayment processing rates with our standard payment processing rates for creators who publish their creator page after August 4th, 2025.

Learn more about the standard payment rates in our guide on what fees creators can expect.

Creators on our Founders plan (pre-May 7th, 2019) will experience no change to their standard payment processing rates, which are applied on a per-transaction basis. Creators on a legacy platform plan (Pro, Premium, or a customized plan) will experience no change to their micropayment or standard payment rates — this change will not impact your processing rates. If you are a creator on our Founders plan or on a legacy plan, please see our creator fees article for more details.

General questions about platform fee changes

  • Since we last updated our prices, we’ve evolved from facilitating monthly memberships into a media and community destination, building products like: Patreon Video, Community Chats, podcast syncing, the ability to host multiple podcasts, and upcoming products like livestreaming and newsletters. We’re offering all of these products to creators at no extra cost. We’re updating our price to reflect Patreon’s product transformation and to continue offering more tools to help creators grow their businesses.
  • Patreon may have sales tax and VAT obligations related to the services fees it charges to its creators. Such obligations usually depend on the types of intermediary rules applicable in a particular jurisdiction, the type of service, the location and business status of the Creator, and the specific rules in each jurisdiction related to the place of taxation and any relevant exemptions.
  • This change impacts creators who publish their page after August 4, 2025. Existing creators who joined and published their page by August 4, 2025, will experience no change to their platform plan.
  • The standard 10% platform plan for all new creators will take effect after August 4, 2025.
  • Standardized platform plan for new creators

    • The new standard platform plan is a 10% platform fee, applicable to both membership and media one-time purchase payments

    Additional changes

    • Where applicable, VAT/Sales tax will be applied to platform/payment fees for the standard 10% platform plan
    • Standardized payment processing rates
  • Your page must remain published and active to keep your legacy platform plan. This means that if you unpublish your creator page for any amount of time after August 4, 2025, or if Patreon unpublishes it for any reason, your page will be subject to the standard 10% platform plan.

We recommend using the pause feature if you want to take a break and retain your legacy platform plan and pricing.

  • If you unpublish your creator page for any amount of time after midnight on August 4, 2025, or if Patreon unpublishes it for any reason, your page will be subject to Patreon’s standard platform plan and pricing when you republish your page. For this reason, we strongly recommend that creators use our pausing feature to take a break.
  • This is not a decision that we made lightly, and we kept two main principles in mind as we worked through this update:

    • Minimize the impact on creators already on Patreon We deeply appreciate every creator who has chosen Patreon as a place to build their business and thriving community. Your trust is important to us, and we’re making this update with that in mind, which is why creators who join and publish their page before August 4, 2025, will not see any increase to their platform plan or fees.
    • Deliver more value for all creators across all plans With this update, we’re not asking creators to upgrade to the 10% plan to unlock access to new features. We’re bringing more value to creators with this update, regardless of what pricing plan they're on. Put more simply: the plan you’re on, whether it’s a legacy platform plan or the standard 10% plan, will not impact your access to Patreon’s core features with this announcement.

We cannot definitively say that no creator on the platform today will see a price increase in the future, but we will continue to be transparent with creators about our reasoning behind platform changes and communicate far in advance so that existing and potential creators can prepare.

  • No, Merch will continue to be a 3% add-on when the 10% standard platform plan goes into effect. This means that any creators can add Merch to their plan for 3%. This 3% fee applies to your total monthly earnings on Patreon.
  • Patreon’s Product Support team is happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have about the upcoming standard platform plan or pricing changes. You can submit a request through our ticket form.
