Getting started with Patreon's network

  • Updated

Patreon's network is a set of features built on connection, not attention. It's designed to help fans discover a new corner of the internet that rewards human creativity. The experience helps fans find creators and content they genuinely care about, while keeping existing memberships front and centre. This way, fans can discover creators beyond those they already support and help creators reach new audiences.

At a glance

  • Public posts and Quips power discovery
  • Home feed on the mobile app helps fans discover new creators
  • Designated feed with posts and Quips only from the creators they already support

Want the bigger picture on how discovery is evolving? Read “Go get discovered!” on Patreon for Creators. Currently, Patreon for Creators is only available in English.

What appears in the Network

The Network is built on public content: Posts and Quips that are visible to everyone, not just your paying members. Combine your profiles (your creator and fan profiles into a single identity) to unlock Patreon's network features. For details, visit our guide on Combine your creator and fan profiles into a single identity.

Access depends on rollout timing and creator type. Starting 27 May, Adult/18+ creators can start combining profiles. Once you combine profiles, you'll be able to publish collaboration posts on Patreon with other creators who make work for Adult/18+ audiences. In the coming months, we'll also start rolling out Patreon Video and Quips. At first, you'll have the ability to post Quips that are only visible to your members. We'll prioritise creators who combine profiles before 30 June for access.

  • Quips are lightweight, public posts designed for quick updates and casual engagement. They're a simple way to show up in discovery surfaces and give fans a low-lift way to react, comment and follow along.

    Key things to know

    • In the Patreon app: Quips show up in the Home feed, Memberships feed and in a dedicated tab on the creator's page
    • On Desktop: Fans can view Quips on your creator page (in your Quips tab) and via direct links. Quips don't appear in a fan's desktop feed
    • Notifications: When you share a Quip, members receive an in-app notification. Quips don't trigger emails. They can adjust their notification settings at any time. For a step-by-step guide, visit the notification section in the Navigate the Patreon app as a member guide

How fans can adjust their notification settings for Quips

Fans can adjust their notification settings at any time by following the steps below.

To turn off notifications for Quips from creators they don't yet follow:

    1. Tap the Settings icon in the top right corner of the Notification screen
    2. Tap Notification settings
    3. Untick the box for Posts and Quips from creators you might like

To adjust notifications for a specific creator:

    1. From the same screen, find the creator in the list and tap on their name
    2. Adjust their notification settings individually by ticking or unticking the boxes

  • Collaboration posts let you co-author public posts with other creators on Patreon. They're designed to help introduce you to an entirely new audience. When you collaborate with another creator, the post appears on both of your pages and in the feed, reaching both audiences at once.

    Key things to know

    • Collaboration posts are always public
    • You can only be added to a collaboration post by accepting the invite, and you can remove yourself at any time
    • Collaborators have view access, but the original author controls editing and deletion

For a detailed guide, visit Collaboration posts.

  • After combining, you and your fans get access to:

Home feed: A discovery feed showing posts from creators fans don't yet follow, alongside creators they do. The feed prioritises posts from creators that fans are already members of.

Memberships feed: A feed reserved entirely for posts and Quips from creators that fans are already a member of. It's designed for keeping up with existing memberships, separate from discovery.

There's also a shortcut in the Home feed that lets fans quickly see a list of the creators they support, so they can jump straight to a creator's page and catch up on their latest posts without scrolling the feed.

    Access Points

On desktop: You still need to switch between creator and member views after combining profiles

On the Patreon mobile app: You don't need to switch, and you stay in a single identity experience

How to get the most out of Patreon's network

Ready to get started? Here are a few good first steps:

  • Combine your creator and fan profiles: visit our guide on Combine your creator and fan profiles into a single identity
  • Post your first Quip: keep it simple, just share something quick from your creative world. Need ideas? Check the "Discovery on Patreon" Collection on Patreon for Creators
  • Explore the Home feed: see what other creators are posting and engage with content you genuinely enjoy
  • Try a collaboration post: reach out to a creator in your space and co-author something together

Navigating the app

Once you have access to the network, you'll notice a few changes to how the app is organised:

Feed tabs: This is where you'll find the Home and Memberships feeds. Tap between the two tabs to switch between discovery and your existing memberships.

Create button: The + button in the bottom menu is where you can create a Post or a Quip.

Your profile: Your creator and fan activity now lives under one identity. Tap your profile image to access your page, Quips tab and account settings.

Inbox: Two tabs organise your chats and direct messages. Your Patreon (messages from your fans) and Your memberships (messages from creators you support).

Comment settings: New public posts default to "Anyone with access" after combining, and you can adjust the comment settings in the Post editor at any time.

FAQs

  • Patreon's network features are built around public content, such as Quips and public posts. Paid and member-only posts stay exclusive to your members and appear in their feed as they normally do.
  • No. Quips are part of Patreon's network features and are available only after combining your creator and fan profiles.
  • Fans gain access automatically once you've combined your profiles. They don't need to take any action.
  • The Home feed is for discovery and recommendations in addition to the content from your existing memberships. The Memberships feed shows only content from creators a fan is already a member of.
  • Starting 27 May, you can combine your profiles and get immediate access to Collaboration posts. Quips and Patreon Video will roll out together later this year. When Quips become available to you, they will initially be visible only to your members, not in the public discovery feed.

Creators who combine before 30 June may get prioritised for the Quips and Patreon Video rollout. You'll receive an email when you get access. The 30 June deadline applies to Adult/18+ creators on the same terms as all creators. For the full timeline, see our guide on Combine your creator and fan profiles into a single identity.

  • Once you combine profiles, your members get access to the new feed at the same time. Your paid content and memberships continue as usual, and paid members will keep seeing your posts exactly as they do now.
  • Other fans and creators will see your activity on public posts in the home feed. This helps more people discover you through the creators you subscribe to and the communities you engage with. As we roll out, we'll give you more ways to manage what's visible, including the ability to hide activity from the feed.
