How to adjust your membership tier prices

Creators are now required to combine profiles

As part of Patreon's Network Discovery updates, creators and members will gradually see a more unified experience across Patreon. That means some steps in this article may look different depending on whether your accounts are already combined.

If you created your Patreon account recently, you may already have a single profile. If you don't see a prompt to combine, this doesn't apply to you.

Who does this apply to

  • Creators (including creators who are also members and support other creators): Combining accounts creates a single identity for both creating and membership activities. You can combine your accounts now through July 6, 2026 (previously June 30, 2026). Starting on July 6, 2026, combining will be required
  • Members-only (no creator page): You may notice navigation updates as these changes roll out. Once the creators you support join the network, you'll also get access to a new feed. No action is needed from your side

What may look different for creators after combining profiles

  • One identity: Your name and profile image are the same everywhere, whether you're creating or interacting as a member
  • One inbox: Notifications and messages are unified in a single place
  • Updated navigation on desktop and mobile: You may see updated labels and entry points that reflect a single, combined experience, including fewer profile-switching steps

Learn what's changing and how to get started in our article about combining your creator and member profiles into a single identity.

As your offerings evolve, you may decide to adjust the prices of your tiers to better reflect what you share with members. This guide walks you through the process of changing tier prices, provides insights on how changes affect members, and highlights best practices to ensure a smooth transition.

Please note: If your tier includes merchandise, you must remove all merch items before changing the tier’s price. This prevents errors and ensures your price update is applied correctly.

What you need to know before getting started

  • Eligibility: You can reprice tiers with existing members if you're using the Subscription Billing model. Check your billing model in account payout settings to confirm eligibility
  • Device-Specific Pricing: Members who join through iOS in-app purchases will remain at their original price, as Apple doesn’t allow Patreon’s pricing tool to adjust these payments.
  • Free Trials: Tiers with free trials cannot currently have their prices updated (this feature is coming soon)
  • Billing Model: First-of-month billing users must switch to Subscription Billing in payout settings to enable tier repricing

How to change the price of your tier

Switch to your creator profile by clicking your profile picture in the bottom left corner. Before updating your tier price, go to the tier’s merch settings and remove all associated merch items. Once the merch is removed, you can proceed to adjust your tier’s price.

  1. Log in to your account and click Dashboard from the left sidebar (if you aren't already there)
  2. Navigate to the Membership tab
  3. Select the tier you want to edit the price for and click Edit
  4. In the Monthly price section, select the Edit price button
  5. A pop-up will open, then enter the New monthly price (you can increase it by up to $20 or lower it to any amount)
  6. Adjust the settings of Who should the new price apply to by selecting one of the two options:
    • New members only - Your existing members will keep their current price
    • All members - The new price will apply immediately for new members, and existing members will change price in their next renewal
  7. Once you fill in the new price and select who it should apply to, click on the Confirm update button
  8. Carefully review the pop-up confirmation and click Apply new price to save changes

Existing members in the tier are automatically notified when the price of their membership changes. The notification includes details about when the new price will take effect. All renewals for the next 31 days will be at the old price, so existing members aren’t charged the new price right away. Your members will receive an email informing them that their tier price will change after 31 days and that their next bill will reflect the new price.

Troubleshooting: If you try to change your tier price while merch is still attached, the update may fail or behave unexpectedly. Always remove merchandise first, then update your tier price, and finally re-add any merch items if needed.

Key considerations for tier repricing

Price Adjustment Limit

  • You can raise your tier price by up to $20. This cap ensures that price changes remain reasonable for your members — (e.g., If your current tier price is $5, you can increase it to up to $25.) If you need to increase beyond this, create a new tier and encourage members to switch
  • You can decrease tier prices without limit, but we don’t recommend setting tiers below $3

Price Lock Period

  • After changing a tier’s price, it is locked for 31 days to notify members. During this period:
    • Renewals are billed at the old price
    • New members pay the updated price
    • Benefits, titles, and descriptions can still be edited
  • Once this 31-day period is over, renewals will be billed at the new tier price, and if necessary, you may adjust the price again
  • We do not recommend changing the price of a single tier multiple times during consecutive months, as it may lead to an increase in cancellations from your members

Impact on membership renewals

If you keep existing members on the old price, their future renewals will not be impacted and they will continue to pay their original price.

  • Monthly Members: Price updates take effect one renewal cycle after the change
    • For example, if you change your tier price on September 3 and an existing member's renewal is on September 5, they will still pay the old price on September 5, as it falls within the 31-day Price Lock Period. Their next renewal on October 5 will reflect the updated price
  • Annual memberships: Updates depend on their renewal date relative to the price lock period
    • For example, if you change your tier price on September 3 and an annual member's renewal date is October 1, their renewal will remain at the old price because it falls within the 31-day Price Lock Period
    • If an annual member's renewal date is not within 31 days of when you change your tier price, the new price will be in effect when they renew.
      • For example, if you change your tier price on September 3 and an annual member's renewal date is October 5, their renewal will reflect the new price. Annual members receive an additional payment reminder two weeks before their renewal, providing extra notice of the price change

Existing members who subscribed via iOS in-app purchases will retain their original tier price. This limitation is due to Apple’s requirements, which don’t support Patreon’s pricing adjustment tools.

Email notifications sent to members

Once you confirm any price changes, your paid members will automatically receive an email from Patreon letting them know their membership price will change, the updated amount, and when this change will take effect.

Note: If you keep existing members at the old price, they will not receive an email notification when you change the price for new members.

Here are some examples of the emails Patreon sends to members:

Their membership will continue renewing automatically, and we'll notify them in advance of any further price changes.

All notifications related to price changes are sent directly from Patreon. However, we encourage you to personally reach out to your members to explain the changes and any new value added to the membership as part of the change. Creators who create a post or send a message to existing members detailing any additional exciting things included with tier price changes are more likely to retain members.

Updating your tiers ensures that your prices reflect your current membership offerings. For additional tips, explore Patreon for Creators for more guides and best practices.
