Changing your payout currency: What to expect
Here’s a breakdown of what the change means for you and your members, along with key steps and requirements to keep in mind.
What this means for you
- You can change your payout currency once every 31 days
- Your available balance must be $0 to initiate the switch. (Pending balances — like iOS payments — won’t block it)
- Example: Available Balance = $0, Pending Balance = $42 → You can switch
- Example: Available Balance = $42, Pending Balance = $0 → You cannot switch
- After changing your currency, you’ll need to re-add your payout method. This will trigger a 5-day payout lock, during which time payouts will be paused. Once the lock period ends, you’ll be able to withdraw your balance as usual
- You’ll have the opportunity to adjust your tier prices during the currency switch. This change will only affect new members — existing members will continue paying their original tier price
- You’ll be subject to payment processing fees specific to your new currency. View supported currencies and rates
- If a pledge is made in a currency different from your payout currency, Patreon applies a 2.5% currency conversion fee. This applies to both new and existing members
- If a creator in the UK changes their payout currency from USD to GBP, an existing US member will continue paying the same amount in USD — their pledge doesn’t change. However, the creator will be subject to the 2.5% currency conversion fee for receiving that pledge in a different currency.
- If you’re a Founders creator, changing currencies may remove access to Founders-specific payment processing – however, your platform fee will stay the same
- If you’re using Stripe and plan to switch to EUR or GBP, you’ll need to choose an alternative payout method. This can be PayPal, Payoneer, or — if available in your country — direct-to-bank payouts
- If you use PayPal, ensure your account is set up to manage multiple currencies. Do this by following the instructions on this PayPal help article: How can I use PayPal to manage multiple currencies?
What this means for your members
- Your existing members will not be affected — they’ll continue paying in their original currency
- New visitors will see your tiers in their local currency, if supported. If not, they’ll see your selected payout currency
- If a member’s bank operates in a currency that we don’t currently support, their payment will default to USD. Because they’ll be paying in a different currency than their local bank account, their bank may charge them an additional foreign transaction fee
- While you’re updating your payout currency, members who try to pledge will see a temporary maintenance message and will be asked to try again in 15 minutes.
Encourage local members to update their pledge to match your payout currency — this can help them avoid currency conversion or foreign transaction fees.
How changing your payout currency works
While changing your currency won’t take long, this process will timeout after 1 hour if you have not completed the currency change. If you exit out at any point before completing the currency change, your changes will not be saved and your currency will not be updated.
While you are making this change, anyone trying to pledge will receive a maintenance notification and will be asked to try again in 15 minutes.
- While logged in to your creator account, click on Settings
- Under Your currency, click on the Change currency button to start the change process. Make sure you have read through the key things to know before changing your currency
- Your available balance must be zero before changing your payout currency – You may still have a pending balance — that won’t prevent the switch
- After that, you can select your new currency. Note the payment processing rates of your newly chosen currency. We recommend reviewing payment processing rates for supported currencies before changing your currency
- Next, confirm your tier prices. The tier prices shown are the same as your previous currency. If you’d like to, you can change your tier prices for new members — existing members will continue to pay the original price
- Finally, click the Confirm and Save button to finalize the switch to our new currency
Refunding members after you change your payout currency
Once you change your payout currency, if you need to refund a member this will be deducted from your balance in your new currency and refunded to the member in their choice of currency (if supported).

Payout currency changes in your dashboards
Earnings dashboard
In the month that you change your payout currency, your balance will display as a stacked chart with both currencies reflected. We’ll display your monthly balance in your new payout currency from that point on. The data in the dashboard will update automatically every 4 hours.
Audience Relationship Manager
All surfaces in the Relationship Manager will be updated with your newly selected currency, except for the pledge amount, which will always display each member’s preferred currency. Each member’s Lifetime Value and the amount you receive are shown in your currency. Similarly, when you download your CSV report from Relationship Manager, this will show amounts in your payout currency.
