How custom domains work

A custom domain lets you replace your Patreon URL (patreon.com/yourname) with a branded link like yourname.com or members.yourname.com. This makes your page easier to share, helps fans recognize and trust your brand, and gives your Patreon a more professional, cohesive presence — while Patreon still powers everything behind the scenes.

Strategically, there are two options you might want to explore for your domain:

  • Custom branding: Use your main website (yourname.com) if you want your membership to be the center of your online presence.
  • Matching your existing brand ecosystem: Use a subdomain like membership.yourname.com to tie your Patreon into your existing site and brand identity.

Once your domain is connected and verified, we’ll automatically secure it with HTTPS so fans can safely visit your page.

Things to know

  • You’ll set this up by editing DNS records at your domain provider (like GoDaddy, Porkbun, etc.)
  • You can connect either a subdomain (recommended, e.g. members.yourname.com or www.yourname.com) or your root (apex) domain (yourname.com)
  • Changing DNS for your Patreon connection won’t affect email (MX records) or other non-web settings — as long as you only update the records Patreon shows.
  • Only one custom domain can be connected to your Patreon page at a time.

Before you begin

  • Make sure you own a domain and can edit its DNS records through your provider
  • Decide whether you want to connect a subdomain or your root domain
  • Sign in to your creator account on Patreon (desktop recommended)

Quick overview of the setup

  1. In Patreon: Enter your domain and take note of the DNS records we generate
  2. At your domain provider: Add the provided DNS records to your domain’s DNS settings
  3. Patreon verifies your setup: Once the records are found, we automatically issue an SSL certificate for your domain
  4. After 24h, your page goes live: All fans can now visit your Patreon at your custom domain

How to set up a custom domain (step-by-step guide)

Step 1: Add your domain on Patreon

  1. From your creator profile, click on Dashboard in the left sidebar menu
  2. Once in the Home tab, select the “...” icon close to the Edit page button and select Page details
  3. In the Basics tab, go to the Use your own domain section and click the Add a domain button
  4. A pop-up will appear with a text box for you to enter your desired domain (e.g. members.yourname.com or yourname.com)
  5. Click the Next button
  6. Patreon will display the DNS records you need to add at your domain provider (CNAME, A, TXT records for routing)

Step 2: Add DNS records at your provider

Now that Patreon has given you the records, log in to your domain provider (like GoDaddy, Porkbun, etc.) and open the DNS editor. Depending on your provider, this might be called DNS settings, Zone editor, or Advanced DNS.

Add the given DNS records in your DNS editor. This will be some combination of A, AAAA, CNAME and TXT records. Use the details provided in Patreon settings.

Important: Each line shown in your Patreon DNS instructions must be added as its own DNS record in your provider’s DNS settings. If we show 3 rows, you must create 3 separate DNS records — one per row. Do not combine multiple rows into a single record.

Copy and paste these records exactly as shown. The values displayed in your Patreon settings are the source of truth and may be unique to your domain.

Step 3: Verify and activate

  1. After you’ve added the DNS records at your provider, return to Page details → Basics tab → Your domains in Patreon
  2. Click the Refresh button to get the latest verification status. The status of your domain will update once we detect the correct records and have successfully issued a SSL certificate on your behalf. This status update may take up to 24 hours.
  3. Once verified, it’ll take 24 hours for your domain to become your primary/canonical URL. DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to update for all visitors to your domain. We suggest that you only begin to share your domain after this 24-hour period.

Redirects & canonical URL

  • Your original patreon.com/creatorname link will keep working. Once your custom domain is active, anyone visiting your Patreon link will be automatically redirected to your new domain
  • Depending on what you chose as your domain, you may see Redirecting domains in addition to your primary domain. The redirecting domains will redirect to your primary URL
  • Visiting custom domains will not deep link to the mobile app and will always open in your mobile browser. From there, you can choose to open the Patreon app.

Troubleshooting

When you add a custom domain, you’ll first see the status as Pending in your Custom domain settings. This is normal while DNS updates spread across the internet. Most connections resolve within minutes, but it can take up to 24–48 hours.

If the status doesn’t change from pending or switches to an error state, here are the most common issues and how to fix them:

If the status doesn’t update, or switches to an error, here are the messages you might see:

  • Patreon can’t detect the DNS records for your domain
    • This usually means you haven’t added the records yet at your provider, or the changes haven’t propagated.
    • Double-check that you added both the TXT (verification) and routing records exactly as shown in Patreon
    • If you just updated your DNS, give it more time — it can take up to 24–48 hours to appear
  •  
    • DNS updates can take up to 24–48 hours
    • Confirm the TXT record matches exactly (no extra spaces or quotes)
    • Check that the Host/Name field matches what Patreon shows (e.g. _patreon or _patreon.members)
    • Some providers auto-append your domain. If that’s the case, enter just members (not members.yourname.com)
  •  

    • Remove any old A or CNAME records for the same host — you should only have one routing record per host
    • If you’re using a root (apex) domain, confirm you used the ALIAS/ANAME or A records provided by Patreon, not leftover values from a past website host

    Some issues don’t appear in Patreon — you might notice them instead in your browser, email, or registrar account.

    • SSL is only issued after both verification and routing succeed
    • Check for restrictive CAA records at your provider. If present, add Patreon’s certificate authority as shown in-product, or remove the restrictive entries
  •  
    • This happens when only one part of your domain is connected
    • Add a second connection for the missing version (apex or subdomain), or set up a DNS redirect at your provider. Follow instructions in Step 2 above.
    • Choose a canonical URL in Patreon to avoid duplicate content
  •  
    • Connecting a domain shouldn’t affect email, but it can happen if there was a mistake made while editing DNS records.
    • Double-check that your MX records are still present
    • If they were overwritten, restore your email provider’s MX records or contact your email provider’s support
  •  
    • If verification fails with DNSSEC turned on, check that your DS records are valid after making DNS changes
    • Broken DNSSEC will prevent verification

Limitations

  • You can connect only one custom domain per creator page. (A subdomain and a root/apex domain count as two separate domains.)
  • Multi-domain setups aren’t supported. Contact Support if you think this applies to you.
  • Patreon uses a CDN (content delivery network) to keep your page fast. This means changes to your content may be cached briefly, but updates will still appear close to real time
  • Some country-level domains (ccTLDs, like .de or .uk) have special DNS rules. If you’re using one of these, you may need extra help from your domain provider to complete setup
  • Once you point a subdomain (like members.yourname.com) to Patreon, only Patreon-hosted pages can live there. You can’t serve other content on the same subdomain

Disconnect or change your domain

You can disconnect your custom domain at any time. When you do, your page will automatically fall back to your original patreon.com/creatorname link, so fans will still be able to reach you.

To disconnect your domain

  1. Go to your Dashboard → Home tab → “…” menu → Page details
  2. In the Basics tab, scroll to the Custom domain section
  3. Find your active domain and click (...) more > Disconnect domain
  4. Select Disconnect

Your Patreon will no longer be accessible on this domain. You’ll need to revert your DNS records in your domain provider settings.

To connect a new domain

After disconnecting, you can add a different domain by following the steps in Connect a custom domain to your Patreon page.
