Patreon’s pricing is designed to grow with your creative business. In this FAQ, you’ll find an overview of how our platform fees work, as well as our charges for features such as memberships and product sales.
How it works
It’s free to get started on Patreon. When you sign up, you’ll get access to tools that help you share content, build community, and connect with your biggest fans — all at no cost. You can explore these features as long as you’d like and only start paying once you begin earning through paid options.
When you’re ready to start earning, there are two ways to monetize:
- Paid memberships: Earn recurring income through paid memberships
- One-time purchases: Sell products individually — even without offering memberships
We only take a small percentage once you start earning, along with standard fees for payment processing, currency conversion, payouts, and applicable taxes.
FAQ
-
There’s no upfront cost to start offering memberships on Patreon — but certain fees apply to the payments you receive from members. These include platform fees, payment processing, payout fees, and more, and they may vary based on factors like your plan, your members’ location, payment method, or currency.
For a detailed explanation of how each fee works, check out our Creator fees overview guide.
Here’s a quick summary of the fees you may see:
- Platform fee – A percentage of successfully processed payments. This depends on your plan: creators on the standard plan pay 10%, while legacy plan creators may pay 5%, 8% or 11%. You can check which plan you're on in your Account Settings
- Payment processing fees – These cover the cost of processing payments from your members. They vary based on your members’ location, currency, and payment method
- App Store fee (iOS purchases) – If a member makes a purchase through Apple’s in-app purchase system within the Patreon iOS app, Apple takes a 30% service fee. This fee replaces Patreon’s standard payment processing fee for that transaction
- Currency conversion fee – A 2.5% fee is applied when a member pays in a different currency than your payout currency.
- Taxes on fees – In some regions, tax must be collected from your members by law. Your payment processing fee is calculated based on the total payment amount, including any applicable tax. Learn more about sales tax and VAT
- Payout fee – A small fee for transferring your balance to your selected payout method (e.g., PayPal, bank transfer, or Payoneer). The fee depends on both the payout method and your payout currency.

Patreon Video is currently included at no extra cost for eligible creators. To ensure a high-quality experience for everyone, there are a few usage limits in place:
Resolution limits
Creators can currently upload video at 720p or 1080p resolutions. For members, Patreon automatically optimizes viewing resolution for both native video and live streaming content. By default, viewers will see content at 720p resolution, though this may be adjusted to 480p in cases where 720p provides no additional benefit. Viewers can manually toggle to higher resolutions when available.
Storage and upload limits
- Draft media: Both Patreon video and livestreaming media files in draft status will be deleted after six months
- Published media: Published Patreon video content is stored indefinitely, maintaining our current policy
- Monthly upload limits: To prevent abuse and ensure fair platform usage, creators are limited to 100 hours of media per month across both Patreon video uploads and livestreaming. This limit applies monthly and is separate from any lifetime upload restrictions. Exceptions may be made for new creators with substantial existing content libraries
- Upload limits for creators with no paying members: Creators build their upload capacity as they grow their community. New creators start with 100 hours total, which expands to 100 hours monthly once they gain their first paying fan. To maintain monthly upload limits, creators need at least one paying fan within the past 90 days—otherwise, the limit returns to 100 hours total
- Early access creators: Creators who enabled Patreon Video before June 21, 2023, were given 500 hours of uploaded videos. Creators who participated in Patreon Video beta can track their total video usage in your Settings
