Set up a podcast on Patreon

  • Updated

You can create one or more podcast shows on Patreon, each with its own unique RSS feed. This guide walks you through how to create and manage podcast shows directly on Patreon, whether you’re just getting started or organizing multiple series.

How to create a podcast

  1. On Desktop, click on Your account from the bottom-left corner and then select Settings
  2. In the Creator settings section, select Podcasts and audio
  3. Click on the New podcast button
  4. You'll be prompted to Sync your feed, then select Not now. If you host your podcast elsewhere, you can also Migrate from another platform and/or Sync with another platform. If you want to go that route, check their dedicated guides instead
  5. Fill in your podcast details. The podcast settings include information used on both Patreon and for your RSS feed:
    • Cover Artwork: Upload your podcast cover image. Recommended size: 3000x3000 px (square image)
    • Title: Choose a clear, descriptive title that's easy for listeners to search for
    • Description: Briefly describe your podcast content
    • Author Name: This will appear as the creator's name on podcast platforms
    • Author Email: Enter the email address associated with your podcast. This email will be visible in the RSS feed. It's recommended to use an email where listeners can send questions and comments
    • Podcast Type:
      • Episodic: Other podcast apps will update this show with the most recent episode shown first, but fans can enjoy episodes in any order. The Patreon feed won't change
      • Serial: Other podcast apps will update this show with the most recent episode shown at the end. Choose this option when you want fans to enjoy your podcast in the order it's published. Existing episodes will be assigned a number based on the publish date. The Patreon feed won't change
    • Explicit Content: Toggle this on if your podcast contains explicit language. Podcasts with explicit content may not appear in all regions. Learn more about Podcast explicit content here.
    • Category: Select the category that best describes your podcast. This helps listeners find your show
    • Copyright: Enter the copyright details, including the active years, owner's name, and company name (if applicable)
    • Language: Select the language your podcast is in
  6. Click Continue
  7. Click on Distribution to choose how members can listen:
    • On Patreon: By default, fans can listen to episodes directly on Patreon, both on desktop and on the mobile app
    • On Spotify: If you choose to enable the integration, fans can listen in the Spotify app. Learn more about how to Share your podcast on Spotify. You can also merge your public and Patreon feeds into a single, seamless experience with Spotify Synced Feeds to drive discovery and membership growth
    • If you host your public episodes on Patreon, you can also share your public RSS on Apple Podcasts, so anyone can listen to your free Patreon episodes
    • Other podcast apps: Via private RSS link. Learn more about how to Enable audio RSS
  8. Click Done

Set up multiple podcasts

If you're creating more than one podcast show, you can split your content into separate themes or series, each with its own feed. Your original RSS feed will become a combined feed (or super-feed), containing all episodes from all shows.

Key things to know:

  • Each new show has its own RSS feed
  • Your original podcast becomes a combined feed, containing episodes from all your shows
  • Existing members will see the combined feed by default when adding to podcast apps, however, this is not yet supported in Spotify
  • You can manage episodes individually and assign them to specific podcasts

Steps to create multiple podcasts

  1. Create a new podcast following the steps from the How to create a podcast section above
  2. After creating your new shows, you'll see a combined feed appear that includes all shows, and your original show will remain
  3. To move episodes into your new podcasts, use your Library
  4. Inform your fans:
    • Let your audience know about the new shows and where to find them
    • Example message: “We’re using Patreon’s multiple podcast feature to better organize our content! You can now subscribe to separate feeds based on the shows you love most. If you have any issues accessing episodes, let us know!”

An episode can only belong to one podcast show at a time

Add and manage your episodes

Once your podcast show is set up, you can start adding new episodes by creating an audio or video post. Each post can be assigned to a specific podcast show, and it will appear in your members’ RSS feeds based on your access settings.

If you upload a video file, Patreon will automatically extract the audio and include it in your podcast’s RSS feed.

Add a new episode

  1. On Desktop, click on Create from the left-side navigation menu
  2. Select either an Audio or Video post type — both formats can be distributed via RSS
  3. Upload a video or audio file
    • If you upload a video file, Patreon will automatically generate an audio-only version for your RSS feed
    • To ensure your file meets Patreon’s technical requirements, click Media Guidelines in the top left corner of the upload screen
  4. Add an Episode title (required)
  5. Add a description if you'd like — this will appear as episode notes in RSS and is a great way to give listeners extra context
  6. Select Add to podcast and choose the podcast show you want to add the episode to from the drop-down menu
  7. You can choose No podcast if you don’t want the post to be added to a podcast and shared via RSS
  8. Fill in optional episode settings:
    • Add an episode number and/or season
    • Select the episode type: Full, Trailer, or Bonus
    • Select whether your content is Explicit. Learn more about Explicit content for podcasts
  9. Click Next, complete the rest of your post details, and then click Publish

You can also add new episodes directly from your Library by following the steps below:

  1. From your Library, click on the Podcast dropdown menu
  2. Select the show you want to add new episodes to
  3. Click Add episodes in the top-right corner and choose New episode from the sub-menu
  4. The post editor will open, then follow the steps from the Add a new episode section above

Move episodes between podcasts

Quickly reorganize your content by assigning episodes to a different podcast show or season. You can do this from your Library, whether you're moving episodes individually or by podcast.

By episode

Best if you want to handpick individual episodes across different shows

  1. Go to your Library from the left sidebar
  2. Select the episodes you want to move
  3. Click Edit > Edit podcast or season to assign episodes

By podcast

Best if you're organizing a podcast at once

  1. From your Library, click on the Podcast dropdown menu
  2. Select the show you want to add move episodes to
  3. Click Add episodes in the top-right corner, then choose Move episodes

An episode can only belong to one podcast show at a time.

Edit or delete episodes

Update episode details, change access or pricing, or remove episodes entirely, all from your Library:

  • Edit episode details: Click More next to the episode and select Edit post
  • Edit price: If you selected to Sell this post in the Audience settings of the post, click Edit in the top-right corner of your Library, select Edit price, then set your desired price. Learn more about Selling your posts and collections
  • Delete episodes: Select the episodes and click Delete in the top right corner

Update your podcast settings

You can return to your Podcast and audio settings anytime to update how your podcast looks, where it’s distributed, or to remove a podcast you no longer need.

  1. On Desktop, click on Your account from the bottom-left corner and then select Settings
  2. In the Creator settings section, select Podcasts and audio
  3. Click on the show you want to update
  4. Click on Settings to update your show's title, cover image, description, and more
  5. When you're done, click Save

To adjust your distribution settings, select Distribution, and toggle the Spotify integration on/off, enable/disable the RSS feed, or enable/disable the option to let anyone listen to episodes on Apple Podcasts.

Delete a podcast

If you delete a podcast, episodes will remain published on Patreon as posts, but they’ll no longer be included in a podcast RSS feed.

  1. On Desktop, click on Your account from the bottom-left corner and then select Settings
  2. In the Creator settings section, select Podcasts and audio
  3. Click on the show you want to delete
  4. Click on Settings
  5. Scroll down and click on the Delete your podcast toggle
  6. Click on Delete
  7. A pop-up will open, and if you'd like to also delete all episodes in this podcast, mark the checkbox
  8. Confirm deletion by clicking on Delete podcast — This change cannot be undone
