This article will cover how a creator on Patreon can go about setting up their custom tiers for membership. This includes adding benefits, limiting the number of patrons, asking for patrons shipping addresses, or adding Discord roles to a tier.
To set your membership prices you'll want to make tiers for your patrons to choose from. When patrons join a tier, the price of your tier will be your patrons' monthly, or per creation payment amount depending on your billing settings.
What will this guide cover?
Making a tier
While logged in to your Patreon creator account, go through the following:
Step 1: Click the Edit your page button in the top banner.
Step 2: Select Tiers from the menu.
Step 3: Click the Add tier button to make a custom tier. If it's your first tier, you can choose one of our templated tiers to get started.
Step 4: Customize your tier! Give your tier a price, title, benefits, and description of what patrons can expect.
Please note that if you launched your creator page on or after May 20, 2020, your benefits will be visible in a list within your tier description so you don’t have to itemize these here.

Adding benefits to your tier
Benefits are what patrons receive for selecting a specific tier. Add multiple benefits to tiers, or keep it simple with fewer, big-impact benefits.
Your benefits can be physical things like merch (stickers, t-shirts, etc), postcards, or a collectible item. Benefits can also be digital like livestream attendance, or a mention in the credits of your upcoming video. As a brainstorming exercise, ask yourself: what can I give my patrons that is unique?

To add benefits to your tiers, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Head to the Tiers section of your Creator Page Editor and find the tier you want to add benefits to. Click the Edit tier button.
Step 2: Click the Add benefit button. You can select from benefits you have already added, select "browse recommended benefits" to choose from our most popular benefits, or create a custom benefit.
Step 3: If you choose to create a custom benefit, a form will populate where you can fill in the benefit title and category. Once you’ve added a title and category, click the Add benefit button.

Step 4: If you want to add more benefits, repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have added all the benefits you want included in this tier. Please note that if you have existing benefits that are part of other tiers, you may find the option to add them to the tier you are editing as well.
Step 5: For creators launched on or after May 20, 2020, you can take this step to reorder your benefits in the way you want them listed on your tier description. To do this, simply drag and drop the benefits in the order you prefer.
Step 6: Don’t forget to click the Save tier button!
Need to remove a benefit from your tiers? Here is a step by step guide: Deleting benefits from tiers.
⚡️Tip: Add a Promo code as a benefit to give patrons in that tier a discount to your store.
Advanced tier options
The tier settings in the Advanced section are optional, and we recommend reading through these options to find what might work for you. To check the advanced tier options, click the Advanced button.

Limit the number of patrons who can join
You can limit the number of patrons who can join your tiers. Simply click the Patron limit checkbox, and enter the maximum number of patrons who can join your tier.
Are you sending patrons physical benefits? Collect patrons' shipping address
Planning on adding physical benefits in the future? Ask for your patrons' shipping addresses now. You can add this requirement to your tier later. That said, existing patrons' will need to edit their pledge to add this information.
Add Discord
You'll already need a Discord account and server set up before connecting in your Tier. Once you've done that, you can connect to Discord and add roles directly from the individual tiers.
Sales tax
Sales tax
The sales tax settings give you control over how sales tax and other similar taxes around the world such as VAT, JCT, GST, and QST, are applied to your membership. By using these tax settings, you will give us further detail on exactly what benefits you offer and how much those things should be valued for sales tax purposes. To learn more about these tax settings, please check advanced sales tax settings.
Not ready to publish your tier?
If you’re working on a tier, but aren’t quite ready for it to be live, you can always unpublish it once you've saved your changes. Once you’ve saved your tier, just select the Edit option. Scroll to the bottom and click the Unpublish button. Your tier will still be editable, but it won’t populate on your page for patrons to choose from.
