Redeeming a membership discount

We are currently testing a feature that allows creators to offer a discount for the first month or first year of a fan’s membership. You can redeem a discount code if you don't have an active paid membership with the creator. This article explains how to redeem a discount

Information about redeeming a membership discount

There are two ways you can redeem a discount to a creator’s Patreon membership. You can do it by adding a discount code during checkout or by taking advantage of a public sale that the creator is running.

At this time, discounts can only be redeemed by fans who aren’t already in an active paid membership with the creator. Discounts apply only to the first billing period: the first month if you choose a monthly subscription or the first year if you select an annual subscription.

How to redeem a membership discount

If you have multiple discount codes, they do not stack. You will need to choose which offer you want to take advantage of.

If you're using the mobile app, public sales won’t be visible on the membership tiers. However, both public sales and discount codes can still be applied during checkout, which will open in a browser window within the app.

Taking advantage of a public sale:

1. Head to the creator’s membership page.
2. If a creator is running a publicly displayed sale, the original price of their membership will be crossed out in place of a new monthly price
3. Press Join on the tier you’re interested in joining
   
4. This will take you to the checkout page, where the discount is already applied
5. Fill out your payment information and complete the checkout process
6. Once completed, you will receive your first month or year of membership at the discounted rate
7. Every month or year thereafter will be full price unless specified otherwise

Taking advantage of a discount code:

1. Head to the creator’s membership page
2. The creator may only choose specific tiers to discount. They should specify this when sharing the code
3. Choose the tier that is discounted
4. Add the discount code (e.g. SUMMER15) under the Discount code section
5. Fill out your payment information and complete the checkout process
6. Once completed, you will receive your first month or year of membership at the discounted rate
7. Every month or year thereafter will be full price unless specified otherwise

Public sale terms & conditions

Discounts apply only to the first month of new, automatically-renewing monthly paid subscriptions or the first year of new, automatically-renewing annual paid subscriptions, and to select tiers, as specified on the creator page

Not applicable to existing automatically-renewing subscriptions, including upgrades or downgrades of existing automatically-renewing subscriptions, or subscriptions canceled and reactivated during the promotion period. Cannot be combined with other offers or discounts. Offer available until the date listed on the creator’s page.

FAQs

• Discounts can only be redeemed by people who aren’t active members of the creator’s community. This includes new fans, free members, and anyone not receiving any paid member benefits from the creator.

• Discounts will either be for the first month or the first year of your membership. This will be specified upon checkout. Once your membership is renewed, you will be charged the full monthly or annual price of the membership.

• You can only redeem the same discount code once per creator.

• Creators can choose how long the code or public sale is available. This information will be communicated either when sharing the code or displayed directly on the membership page during public sales.

• Yes, if you have a discount code from the creator, you can add it to the discount code section during checkout. Your inputted discount code will take into effect, and override the automatic code.
