How Patreon's network works for members

  • Updated

Patreon's network is built on connection, not attention. It's a place to discover a new corner of the internet that rewards human creativity, helping you find creators and content you genuinely care about, while never losing sight of the creators you already support.

When a creator you support joins Patreon's network, you'll notice some changes to your Patreon app experience. This article explains what's new, what you can control, and what stays the same.

What stays the same

  • Your existing memberships and access to paid content are not affected
  • Paid members continue to see paid posts they have access to
  • Your membership fees and billing don't change unless you change your membership or the creator changes pricing
  • A creator's past posts remain where they have always been

What's new

  • In the Patreon mobile app, your Home screen has two tabs:

    • Home: A discovery feed showing posts and Quips from creators you already follow, ranked at the top, alongside recommendations for creators and communities you may not have discovered yet.

    • Memberships: A feed reserved entirely for posts and Quips from creators you're already a member of (free or paid). No recommendations, just the creators you already support.

Posts from creators you already support are always ranked first in the Home feed, so you'll never miss content from the creators you follow.

Your paid and exclusive posts are never shown to non-members in the discovery feed. Only public content appears in discovery surfaces.

Switch between feeds at any time

Use the Home tab to explore and discover new creators. Switch to the Memberships tab when you just want to catch up with the creators you already support.

    Quick access to your memberships

You can quickly access a list of all the creators you're a member of (free or paid) by tapping the icons in the top-left corner of the home tab. You can then tap any creator to jump straight to their page.

  • Quips are short, public posts that creators use to share quick updates directly in the Home feed, such as a behind-the-scenes moment, a quick thought, or a preview of upcoming work. You may see Quips in your Home feed from creators you don't yet follow.

    How to engage with Quips

You can interact with any Quip you see in your feed:

    • Like: Tap the like icon to show your appreciation
    • Comment: Tap the comment icon to leave a reply
    • Reshare: Share a Quip to spread it to others

    Quips notifications

When a creator you support posts a Quip, you'll receive an in-app notification. Quips are never sent by email.

To manage Quip notifications for a specific creator:

    1. Tap Notifications Notifications icon in the top-right corner of the Home screen
    2. Tap Your account Settings icon
    3. Find the creator in the list and adjust their notification settings individually

To turn off notifications for Quips from creators you don't yet follow:

    1. From the same screen, unmark the checkbox for Posts and Quips from creators you might like
  • Collaboration posts are public posts co-authored by two or more creators on Patreon.

When a creator you support collaborates with another creator, the post can show up in places you already browse on Patreon, even if you don't follow the other creator yet.

Collaboration posts are public and free to view. You can like, comment on, and share them the same way you would with other public posts.

How to tell it's a Collaboration post

Collaboration posts show the names of all contributing creators in the byline. If you see a post from a creator you follow that includes another creator's name, it's a Collaboration post.

If a creator you support is involved in a Collaboration post, either as the original author or as a collaborator, you'll receive a notification when the post is published (depending on your notification settings).

If you see a Collaboration post from a creator you don't follow, you can visit their page and choose to join for free or select a paid-membership option.

Shape your discovery experience

What appears in your Home feed is not fixed. Your activity helps shape what you see over time in the Patreon mobile app:

  • Like, comment, and join creators to see more of what you enjoy
  • Tap More on any post and select Not interested to see less content like this in the future
  • In any post, you can switch between viewing comments in chronological order or by the most engaging threads by tapping the sort option at the top of the comments section to switch between the two
  • To find posts you've already browsed or saved, tap Library Library icon, where you'll find recently played, recently viewed, and saved posts all in one place
  • Tap on any creator in the Home feed to visit their page and explore their posts, collections, chats, and shop
  • Found a creator you want to revisit? Head to Explore Search.png and scroll down to the Recently Visited section to quickly return to any creator's page you've recently explored

Select your interests (Coming soon)

When you first set up the app, you'll be able to select topics and interests that shape your Home feed from day one. The more you select, the more relevant your feed becomes.

Report content that violates our guidelines

If you see something in your feed that you believe violates Patreon's Community Guidelines, tap More on the post and select Report to flag it for review. For anything else, you can reach our Support team directly.

A note for fans of Adult/18+ creators

If you support Adult/18+ creators, you'll still be able to access their posts through the feed and the creator's page as you'd normally do.

At this time, Adult/18+ creators may not be shown in discovery surfaces the same way as all-audience creators, and some discovery features (such as Quips) may not be available for Adult/18+ creators.

We'll update members as new experiences become available.
